Frequently Asked Questions                 [1]  [2]

Question: Why should I hire you?

Answer: We vow to keep you involved in every step of the process as we craft a Web site, brochure, or online service that looks good and functions even better. We believe in the power of images and interactive media, but we also believe that the No. 1 responsibility of any Web site is to convey meaningful information about your business, so that you can generate new customers and leads.

Question: How long will it take you to finish my site or brochure?

Answer: That depends largely on the complexity of your web site. But we also realize that time is a crucial element in establishing an online presence. Site with fewer than ten pages and loose design requirements can be completed in the matter of a few days. For custom designs with detailed requirements, sites could take up to two weeks or more to complete.

Question: What is a domain name?

Answer: A domain name is the web address you'll use for your site. For example, our domain name is "CentervilleWebDesign.com". Domain names could end in something other than ".com" -- also known as a top level domain (TLD) -- but ".com" is by far the most common TLD. ".Com" is typically the TLD we recommend.

Question: Should I buy a domain name before I contact you?

Answer: If you've already got one, that's fine. We'll build your site on any domain you like! If you're considering a name, feel free to contact us first, and we'll send you a free copy of our PDF ebook, 'How to Pick Domain Names that Generate Traffic.'

Question: What is search engine optimization?

Answer: Since most of your visitors will find you through the use of search engines, you should make sure your site is set up to effectively communicate with search engines. That's the crux of search engine optimization.

Web robots and spiders are "scripts" (or computer programs), which visit your site and organize the information they find so they can display your site's information to their users. Search engine optimization refers to the process of improving your site's relationship with those bots and spiders. The process involves a number of techniques, from renaming files so that they accurately reflect their content, to focusing on relevant keywords, building site maps, improving URL construction, and offering detailed, accurate metadata.

It's important to note that SEO does not involve paid advertising or any form of "gaming" the system. That said, effective SEO will improve the quality and number of visits your site receives.

Question: What is web hosting?

Answer: When you build a web site for others to access on the internet, you've got to store your files on a "server." When a user visits your Web site, they're actually requesting individual files from your server. The server "serves" those files to the user, who can then view them in a Web browser. Since setting up a server is a costly, labor-intensive process, most Web site owners hire a "web host" to manage their server. This typically requires a monthly or annual fee. Centerville Web Design offers affordable hosting for our clients.

Question: How much does it cost to hire you?

Answer: We've set up a menu of services (with prices) to give you an idea of what we charge. No two sites are the same, of course, so some jobs will require unique arrangements.

Question: Can you perform regular site updates for me?

Answer: Yes. For a set fee, we've got a program called "Web site maintenance", which allows you to request as many updates as you'd like every month. Alternatively, you can request one-time updates as often as you'd like with billing charged by the hour.
