FAQs on Poster Design and Printing at Centerville Web Design

Why do I need professional poster design?

Posters are a cost effective way to reach a very specific audience. If you're advertising pet sitting, for instance, you'd hang your posters on the billboard at the local pet store, at high-end grocery stores and near dog parks. In large printing batches, posters also allow you to saturate large urban areas with your message, you can build inordinate amounts of buzz for large events -- granted your event is buzzworthy. With professional assistance, you'll get a poster design that gets attention.

When should I advertise with posters?

We recommend that you peg your poster to an event that's large and/or unusal for your company or organization. Creating a generic poster that says, "Sale this weekend!" is far less engaging than a poster that says, "Summer Sale July 14-15 ONLY!" Posters can also be used to canvas large swaths of cities or neighborhoods, allowing you to reach a large audience. The moral? Advertise with posters when you really NEED people to show up, since you've invested heavily in your event.

What should my poster design look like?

Your poster design should immediately appeal to your target audience. If you're targeting classic car owners, you should include a large photograph or drawing of a classic car on your poster design. It shouldn't just be any picture of a classic car, though, it should be on that makes you do a doubletake -- either for the fact that it's a particularly rare or beautiful car, or because there's something unusual about the image and/or poster design.

Another powerful tactic is harnessing the power of negative space within your poster design. Use one word or image that gets to the essence of your event, and let that do the talking. Then, fill in the relevant details below.

What information should I include in my poster design?

One common mistake we see in poster design is a belief that your audience will "know what your event is all about". Events that aren't instantly understood by the majority of onlookers should have some explanation.

Advertising a baseball game, for instance, doesn't take a whole lot of description, but advertising a fundraising fashion show, might require some extra information. Tell your poster readers who's welcome at the fashion show, name local designers who will be there, and provide tear-offs at the bottom of the poster that include the event's Web site address.

Other common things that should include on EVERY poster design: cost (even if it's free, be sure to say "free" on the poster), date, time, location, contact information, and your Web site address.

Do you offer any special printing effects in your poster designs?

Certainly. We offer the following printing enhancements for additional fees:

  •  Vinyl Posters: Create long-lasting, weatherproof posters with or without grommets.
  •  Gallery Wrapper Posters: Create stretch canvas posters mounted on frames for posters that are worthy of hanging in a gallery.
  •  Adhesive Posters: Create posters that don't require staples, tacks or nails. With an adhesive backing, you can stick your poster anywhere you like.
  •  Glass Cling Posters: Create opaque posters that adhere to your glass storefront.
  •  Wall Graphics: Create a special fabric poster that with an adhesive backing. It will stick to walls without disturbing the paint underneath.

Note: Custom poster printing effects will be quoted on a job-by-job basis.
